Dejmark specialises in the distribution and sale of decorative and industrial paints, coatings and painting supplies. It also operates the xFarby.sk online store and xFarby retail locations, which offer custom colour tinting. To streamline the tinting process, we developed Oxytint for Dejmark – an application that connects the product catalogue, pricing and tinting formulas with the tinting machine and the sales process. We used AI during the reverse engineering of the original system and to analyse how it communicated with the machine.
The tinting machines in xFarby stores relied on proprietary third-party software that operated separately from the company's other systems. Dejmark wanted to bring the entire tinting process into its own solution and connect it directly with its product catalogue, pricing and sales.
The new application needed to communicate directly with the physical dispenser and cover the full process, from selecting a product and shade to labelling and checkout. Key requirements included reliable operation during internet outages, safe recovery of interrupted tinting jobs and efficient management of devices across multiple stores.
The first step was to understand in detail how the existing system communicated with the tinting machine. AI accelerated our analysis of technical materials, existing code and device communication, while also helping us turn the findings into working documentation for further development.
Based on this analysis, we developed a custom driver and the Oxytint desktop application. It retrieves the product catalogue, pricing, colour charts and tinting formulas from Dejmark's backend and communicates directly with the dispenser.
The salesperson selects the product, shade and pack size. Oxytint calculates the formula and price, then controls the dispensing of individual pigments. It can also identify a visually matching, more cost-effective shade alternative. Similarity is evaluated using the CIEDE2000 metric, which measures colour differences in a way that reflects human visual perception.
Every tinting job is stored locally before the machine starts. If the process is interrupted, Oxytint can determine the quantities that were actually dispensed and resume from the correct point after restart. The same real dispensing data is then used to generate labels, including UFI and CLP information whenever required by the formula.
The same data also makes it possible to work effectively with partially tinted paint. The system knows its exact composition, supports completion of the tinting process, generates a label based on the actual formula and helps bring the product back into the sales process.
The catalogue, colour charts, pricing and tinting formulas are also stored locally, allowing stores to continue tinting during an internet outage. Once the connection is restored, the application safely synchronises with the central data source.
Oxytint is also integrated with the Kasa point-of-sale system. Both systems share the same catalogue, pricing and EAN codes, so the finished paint moves into checkout with the correct product information and price.
Remote diagnostics give the service team access to device status and the logs they need. New versions of the application are distributed automatically, enabling updates to be managed centrally across the store network.
The solution also includes a simulation mode that mirrors the behaviour of the physical tinting machine. Dejmark can use it for customer demonstrations, staff training and testing new functionality.
Dejmark now has its own solution for a process that is directly connected with its data, sales and day-to-day xFarby operations. The company can evolve the functionality around its business needs, roll out new versions centrally and service devices remotely.
Oxytint also supports uninterrupted store operations, safe recovery of incomplete tinting jobs, more cost-effective shade selection and better use of already mixed paint. AI accelerated the technical groundwork and helped the team translate the behaviour of the original system into a product Dejmark can control and develop further.
